Your data is really really important.
Let us back it up.
What would you do if your computer crashed tomorrow? For us at HAS The Geek, it’s a pretty easy question to answer. We’d just restore from the backup, unfortunately, it’s not that easy if a backup isn’t in place. Here at HAS The Geek we are very persistent about backing data. Whether it’s family pictures, important business documents, or even some massive collection of cat pictures (don’t worry, we don’t judge) you’re going to want to make sure it’s definitely backed up. That said, there are a lot of different backup strategies and choosing the one that is best suited for you isn’t always easy. We’ll give you a rundown of each of your options when meeting on site with you to perform a backup, but we thought it would be helpful to list just a few of the most popular methods below.
- External Hard Drive: Arguably the most tried and true method of backing up your data. It consists of purchasing an external hard drive which you can get at just about any retailer or sites like Amazon. Once setting up on your computer, it can be programmed to run in the background weekly, daily, or even hourly if you so desire.
- Cloud Backup: Backing up information to “the cloud” is an excellent way to ensure that your data is safe in the event of a catastrophe such as a flood or tornado. Services like Crashplan and Mozy offer a number of different plans to suit just about anyone’s needs. They are annual plans that can be renewed at the end of each year and ensure you’re data isn’t going anywhere.
We don’t like data recovery. If we have to perform data recovery it usually means that a backup was not setup in the first place or the backup setup prior had failed. That said, it is something that we can try an perform. Results of data recovery can be a mix. Depending of the condition of the drive, the integrity of the data and a number of other factors, recovering the data can prove to be nearly impossible at times. Despite that, we’re always willing to give it a shot and see what we can do to recover anything.
